Bus Route Changes In The Works

Whatcom Transportation Authority (WTA) has proposed significant changes to bus services starting June 2025, particularly for routes outside downtown Bellingham, and is seeking community input on these proposals. The changes include increased frequency to areas like the Lummi Nation, Bellingham Technical College, the Lighthouse Mission, the waterfront, and a new route to the King Mountain Neighborhood.

A public hearing on these changes is scheduled for November 7th. We’ll post a reminder about this hearing when the date draws near. 👍️

Read Local: Commercial salmon fishers struggle with low prices

The Salish Current has published a fascinating article by Bonnie Swift detailing the impact of depressed dock prices on our local fishing industry. She discusses these impacts with Bellingham fisherman Warren “Buck” Gibbons, and Lummi Nation fisherman Dana Wilson.

Roe Soft Opening Rescheduled

A couple of updates about Roe, the new restaurant scheduled to open downtown in coming weeks.

They have postponed their soft opening to November 1st, 2nd, and 3rd from 5-10 PM (walk-in only).

They posted a sample menu online that looks mouth-wateringly delicious. It includes some fun-looking fancy dishes, a few classics, and a handful of literature-themed cocktails for us bookworms 🍸️. We’re excited!

Gardener Alert!! 🌼🌼 End of the Season Plant Sale

Northwood Nursery in Lynden has announced a 30% off sale today and tomorrow (Oct 25-26) on all perennials, shrubs, and grasses. Mums are $1, and Pumpkins are 50% off. For the computationally challenged like myself, that’s half a 🎃.

Crash an Open House

1207 Clearbrook Place (Open Fri 3:30-5:30, Sat 11-1)
This rambler may have been built in 1978, but it has authentic midcentury-mod charm. Classic entry, lots of windows, and a floor-to-ceiling stone mantel. Would be fun one to check out. Listing.

235 Terrace Place (Open Fri 4-6 PM)
This home is gorgeous (I love all the tight knot cedar), but even more so, take a look at the location! It's at the top of a slope backing up to a greenbelt with wide-open views of the bay and the Canadian Rockies in the distance. Just Awesome. Listing.
