Good morning, Bellingham. This is your Monday update from The Hamster Wheel.
The countdown is upon us!!! Our kids have found a litany of reasons why they should open presents early. Friday before winter break gifts? Winter Solstice gifts? Sunday before Christmas gifts? 🤣
We watched A Christmas Story instead and enjoyed some vicarious gifting when that “Red Ryder carbine-action, 200-shot range model air rifle with a compass in the stock and this thing that tells time” was revealed.

First Responders Bring Christmas to Bham Kids 👮♀️👨🚒
This one is heartwarming 💗, and a great reminder of how lucky we are to have this amazing community of first responders in Whatcom County. 👇️
Last week, the Bellingham Police Association held its Shop with a Cop event, where “50 Bellingham Public School students and siblings paired with public safety officials to purchase Christmas gifts and cold-weather gear” at the Bellingham Walmart. Santa Claus arrived aboard a fire truck, escorted by a fleet of law enforcement vehicles. 🚒
What makes Shop with a Cop extra magical is providing an opportunity for kids to form lasting and positive impressions of safety officers outside of a scary situation or one riddled with anxiety.
Shop with a Cop included personnel from Bellingham PD, Bellingham Fire, South Whatcom Fire, Washington State Patrol, Ferndale PD, Lynden PD, Washington State Parks, Blaine PD, and Lummi Nation PD. It was sponsored by Dawson Construction, Piper Dentistry, Ultra Northwest, Order of the Eastern Star, Custer Gun Range, and Everett O. Foundation.
It's a Wonderful Life at The Pickford
Are you looking for a Christmas Eve activity for the family? The Pickford is offering a great solution by showing the 1946 Christmas classic It's a Wonderful Life at 12:30 and 6:15 PM.
This one’s an annual tradition in our home and, were it not for a prior commitment, we’d LOVE to see it on the big screen. 😍

Habitat for Humanity Christmas Eve Sale
We’re huge fans of the Habitat store on Cornwall Ave. Unlike most of the larger thrift shops in Bellingham, Habitat is run by a nonprofit organization, meaning your donations (and dollars spent) go directly towards supporting Whatcom families. Namaste The Royal Taste of India
Blaine based restaurant Namaste The Royal Taste of India opened a Bellingham location this week at 1213 Cornwall Ave. Look mid-block between Cafe Akroteri and El Capitan's.
The Blaine location gets rave reviews online and the Cornwall one is receiving the same:
“The food was absolutely delicious! We had heard great things about the Blaine location and they were right!”
“So delicious, great service, and very friendly. We will be back!”
“The best Indian restaurant in Bellingham! I had the Shahi Paneer, Tandoor chicken and garlic naans and it was all delicious. I highly recommend this place!”
We’ve not been to either yet, but Namaste is on the list for our next date night. 👫 Open 11 AM - 11 PM daily (Closed Mondays).
